Verrado Art Department Koi Wall
Before Prickle & Pine Designs, Brigitte spent nearly a decade teaching high school art, and at Verrado High School in Buckeye she co-ran the art club that took painting out of the classroom and into the community.
This koi pond is one of those projects: golden koi circling lily pads and a lotus through swirling, Van Gogh-style water, painted across a campus block wall and signed the way group work should be, "Verrado Art Dept 2022."
Guiding young artists through public work like this is what she calls the peak of art education, and it is the through line from her classroom years to the school murals she paints on commission today.
"Guiding young people in an art practice that would affect the community was the peak of art education for me."
