HeArt of Goodyear painted heart sculpture by Brigitte De Marco on its City of Goodyear base

Public art commission

HeArt of Goodyear

The heART of Goodyear project is a City of Goodyear public art program: ten fiberglass hearts, each five feet tall and six feet wide, installed in parks across the city for its 75th anniversary and repainted by a new roster of local artists in 2022. The City of Goodyear credits Brigitte with the heart at the Bullard Wash Park amphitheater.

She painted both sides as one continuous Arizona sunset. The front carries the White Tank Mountains over the agricultural grid that built Goodyear, saguaros in bloom at the corners. The back reimagines the same range in flowing topographic lines under a sky split between night and day, a nod to the survey maps and farm plats in the city archives.

Community feedback shaped the design: her concept sheet logged what residents loved most, the mountain views, the sunset colors, and the cacti, and the finished heart keeps all three front and center. Painted on site in the park, it was one of her first public commissions after leaving the classroom to paint full time.

"I always love being a part of public art projects. I designed both sides as an Arizona sunset. This is one of 10 hearts in the city of Goodyear."
Brigitte, on her Murals and Public Art board
