Community Paint Days and Chalk Art

Some walls are meant to be painted together. Brigitte leads community paint days where volunteers and students put brushes on the wall with her, like the desert mountainscape a crew of helpers rolled across a brick school building, everyone working from her color-blocked design.

Chalk is the other community canvas. She has drawn festival squares since her teaching years, when she led her classes into chalk art competitions, and her festival pieces keep the same subjects as her walls: monarchs and swallowtails drifting over an Arizona outline framed in blooming cacti.

Community art engagement is one third of her practice, alongside commissions and the studio. If your school, neighborhood, or festival wants a wall or a square painted together, that is exactly the kind of project she loves.

"I lead my class in community service opportunities, chalk art competitions, public murals, etc and realized that these experiences brought me the largest sense of fulfillment."
